This blog post is special for me because these two are leaving for Australia next week. It’s also one of my favourite sessions ever.
First a little backstory…
I have known Kara since I walked into my dorm at the University of Guelph on move-in day, almost 8 years ago. Later at our residence’s meet-and-greet she announced she “loved beer and hated country music”. I remember secretly hoping she’d become my friend. I have rather fond memories of my residence experience and I know without a doubt it wouldn’t have been nearly as adventurous without Kara.
Kara has been in my life for all the really important milestones. I sent her an extremely memorable email when I first started dating Jake, she planned my bachelorette and stood up as one of my bridesmaids at our wedding, she came over to cuddle Mattea when she arrived, and brought homemade chili to the hospital when Dash was born. Even though our lifestyles have been quite different and we’ve both been busy these last couple years, we have always made time to catch up. Every time I see her she’s full of good stories and laughs.
I remember when she told me she had started dating Ryan. We were sitting in her bedroom of her downtown apartment and she casually let me know. I was intrigued but not surprised. All that was important to me was that my friend was with a good guy. He was then, and he still is now. I pretty much know Ryan is a good guy because every time he comes to my house, my kids will not leave him alone. I think he secretly loves it. Both Ryan and Kara have always been utterly amazing with my children and have taken the time to make them feel loved since the time they were born.
I didn’t know they were going to be leaving for Australia when I planned this shoot. But I’m so glad I was able to do this with them.
You want to know why I chose them? Three reasons. #1 – they are gorgeous, #2 – they are stylish, and #3, and most importantly, they have incredible natural chemistry.
Before we get into the photos, I have say a big thank you to my wonderful makeup artist (and friend) Alicia Cowan (Alicia Cowan Makeup Artist & Stylist). She not only did the make-up, but also assisted me with styling. I was thankful for her creative suggestions during this shoot as well as her lovely company.
Oh, and P.S., Kara and Ryan are NOT engaged. I know getting photos together as a couple usually means you are, so I have to apologize to their friends who got confused and sent them several Facebook messages of excitement when they saw the sneak peek I put up on Facebook months ago…. Ha!
So here they are…Kara & Ryan, June 2o12
I made sure to get some shots of them on the stoop (below). That was their door/ stoop to the apartment they shared here in Guelph.
I just love how the shoot ended with this collage:
Kara & Ryan, thank you, thank you, thank you for letting me dress you up and follow you around with my camera that hazy evening in June. I’m totally selfish in saying I wish you weren’t leaving, but I know you’re completely happy, so I’m happy for you too. All the best in Australia and be sure to pencil in our regular Skype dates. Myself, Jake, Mattea, Dash & the furbabies love you like a fat kid love cake. XOX
